San Francisco 49ers fans can look forward to a new season with greater optimism as star quarterback Brock Purdy is recovering well from his elbow injury, according to team officials.

General manager John Lynch said the 2022 PFWA All-Rookie Team member is ready to go five months after injuring his elbow during the NFC Championship game with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Purdy underwent surgery to repair the torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow incurred last March.

The surgery and rehab are successful, and Purdy has been cleared to join practices as the 49ers begin camp today.

However, Lynch said, "We're sticking and adhering to a plan that's been put in place for some time."

This means limited time on the field for Purdy. The team said he would participate in two days of throwing and take the day off the next day.

Purdy's rise and role and next season

The 23-year-old stunned the league last year, becoming one of the most promising quarterbacks in his rookie year. He has taken over the starting QB designation, and coach Kyle Shanahan assured he will still own that position once he returns.

"He will [be with the starters] when he's out there," he said.

"The throwing plan's a little different. We're never going to have him go three days in a row."

Purdy will come into the new season with more attention on him, and his teammate Kyle Juszczyk is excited about how the rising star will adjust and elevate his game.

"That's what I'm interested to see because he already got some of those early tests that a normal young quarterback would get," Juszczyk said during an appearance on The Haberman and Middlekauff Podcast last week.

"Usually, it's heat him up, let's see what kind of decisions he makes under pressure. Now, do you just play him like a normal quarterback? Are there things that he kind of gives away? I don't know. I haven't done that evaluation of him so honestly I'm interested to see, too, how people play him."
