The Miami Heat are looking for help in their backcourt as All-Star guard Dwyane Wade continues to miss games due to knee issues. Potentially trading one of their big men for a capable guard who can provide quality minutes for the team is becoming a priority for the Miami front office.
ESPN.com is reporting that the two-time defending champions have started engaging in trade talks to nab a productive guard to fill- in the shoes of Wade, who recently missed his fifth game when the Heat played the Chicago Bulls on Thursday night. Veteran guard Ray Allen started his first game in a Heat uniform in lieu of Wade, becoming the third player that coach Erik Spoelstra has tried to use at shooting guard in place of the injured All-Star. Roger Mason, Jr. and James Jones were the other starters during the four games that Wade was out.
ESPN sources say that the Heat is gauging the market for one of their big men, with center-forward Joel Anthony reported to be the likeliest to be shipped out.
Wade has not been 100 percent this the season after undergoing surgery to repair his knees. The team has also decided that Wade won't be playing in back-to-back games after his knees became sore in November due to playing in consecutive nights. The Heat are 2-3 without him.
Last year, Mike Miller was the designated starter during games when Wade was out. Miller was effective in his 17 starts last season with averages of 10 points, five rebounds and three assists while shooting 49 percent. However, he is no longer with the team after the Heat amnestied him.
