Team USA is discussing with Philadelphia 76ers superstar Joel Embiid to play for the team in the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.

Hall-of-Famer Grant Hill, who currently serves as the managing director of the USA's men's national basketball team, revealed the development in an appearance on SiriusXM NBA Radio.

"[Embiid] is also somebody who we've talked to about next summer, and we'll see. We'll see how that plays out," Hill said.

The 50-year-old former NBA player noted the strength of the French national basketball team, who defeated Team USA in the opening game of the 2020 Summer Olympics.

The two faced off again in the gold medal game, wherein the United States narrowly avenged the earlier group stage loss, 87-82.

Hill noted that France adding this year's top overall pick Victor Wembanyama, and possibly Embiid, could make things difficult for Team USA.

Joel Embiid is eligible for three countries

The 7-foot center, Cameroonian by blood, has not seen international action in his basketball career yet. He was named in Cameroon's preliminary team to compete in the 2017 FIBA AfroBasket in the Republic of Congo but ultimately did not go.

Embiid was granted French citizenship in July 2022 and has publicly expressed his desire to play for France.

The six-time NBA All-Star received his United States citizenship a few months later, in September 2022, making him eligible to represent the Stars and Stripes as well.
