The Kansas City Chiefs aim to keep star defensive tackle Chris Jones on their roster amid a holdout by the 29-year-old as the two sides are still working on a contract extension.

Chiefs general manager Brett Veach mentioned to Jesse Newell of the Kansas City Star that Jones deserves a lucrative contract, and they hope that this situation gets resolved as they have no intentions of dealing the two-time Super Bowl winner.

"I think for all parties, I think the best resolution would be for him to end his career as a Chief -- and get that financial security," the 45-year-old executive said.

Jones was named to the First Team All-Pro for the first time last season and was selected to his fourth Pro Bowl game in a row. He helped the Chiefs win their second Super Bowl in four seasons last February.

The former Mississippi State player spent his entire NFL career in Kansas City since the team drafted him with the 37th overall pick in 2016.

Chiefs looking to avoid losing another key player

The reigning Super Bowl champions are looking to prevent losing another key player after losing star wide receiver Tyreke Hill last year via a trade due to failing to reach an agreement to an extension with a year left in his deal.

The four-time First Team All-Pro was traded to the Miami Dolphins, who made him the highest-paid wide receiver in the league with a new four-year, $120 million extension.
