Lolo Jones' push replacement upstaged her on Friday.
OlympicTalk.nbcsports.com reported Friday that the two-woman U.S. bobsled team of Jazmine Fenlator and Emily Azevedo finished fourth at the World Cup race in Park City, Utah.
For Fenlator, the finish was much better than her 15th-place showing last week when she paired with Lolo Jones at the World Cup event in Calgary, Alberta. Because of that finish, the U.S. National Team substituted Azevedo for Jones during Friday's race.
The silver lining for Jones was that Fenlator and Azevedo still finished third among the top three two-woman U.S. teams. Driver Elana Meyers teamed with push athlete Aja Evans to win the race in Park City, Utah, in a time of 1 minute, 37.67 seconds. They beat Olympic and world champion Kallie Humpries, who team with push athlete Heather Moyer to finish second with a time of 1:37.80.
Americans Jamie Greubel (driver) and Katie Eberling finished third with a time of 1:37.86.
The consolation for Jones, who is trying to earn a spot on the U.S. Olympic Bobsled team, was that Azevedo didn't help Fenlator earn a top-three performance. The report indicated that the teams for today's race could change, meaning Jones could be back in the lineup and have a chance to outdo Azevedo in her own run with Fenlator.
World Cup results will determine how many U.S. sleds will qualify for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia in February. OlympicTalk.nbcsports.com previously speculated that the U.S. would qualify three. That report also stated that the selection of push athletes will be discretionary selections but that the World Cup results would play a role in those selections.
Jones is hoping to have better success with the bobsled than she did during two Olympic competitions in the 100-meter hurdles.
