The Sooners have topped the sixth-rank Cowboys in nine of 10 meetings in the Bedlam series, and will look to play spoiler this afternoon while a win for Oklahoma State would clinch them a share of a conference title and send them to a Bowl Championship Series game for the second time in three years.
Every week for us has been a big game, and it's all led up to the biggest game," Cowboys senior defensive tackle Calvin Barnett said via ESPN. "It feels really good knowing that all the work we've put into it so far is coming out and that the chance is actually here."
The best that the Sooners can do is finish in a three-way tie for second place in the conference standings, and they aren't taking kindly to being referred to as "the spoilers."
"We're OU and they're OSU, so I wouldn't call it a spoiler role," safety Gabe Lynn told ESPN. "They're a good team and they're having a great season. We always want to win that game. They're just another good team we have to beat."
Today's matchup marks the first time since 2009 that Oklahoma plays the Cowboys without a Big 12 title at stake.
"Well, over the last many years, I'd rather have the big picture, but this week, I'd rather be where they're at," Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said via ESPN. "There's no denying that. So in the end, sure, we've done our deal, but today is today and that's all I can think about is what we want to do this week."
Stoops admitted there is some motivation for the Sooners to ruin the Cowboys chances, but its minimal at best.
"That may be the lowest form of motivation that a competitor can have," Stoops told ESPN. "So no, that has nothing to do with how we approach the game whatsoever. That is a very, very low form of motivation."
In the quarterback battle, Blake Bell is 130-for-217 (59.9%) for 1,508 yards with 11 touchdowns and five interceptions for Oklahoma while Clint Chelf is 112-for-199 (56.3%) for 1,592 yards with 14 scores and five picks this season for Oklahoma State.
The Sooners look to play spoiler while the Cowboys look to advance to the Bowl game when these teams take the field this afternoon.
