Broncos Injury Report: WR Jerry Jeudy to Undergo MRI After Injuring Hamstring at Joint Practice

The Denver Broncos suffered a blow on Thursday, August 24, after starting wide receiver Jerry Jeudy reportedly suffered a hamstring injury during training camp practice.

Broncos head coach Sean Payton relayed the unfortunate development and added that the 24-year-old player will undergo an MRI to determine the injury's severity.

"It's a hamstring," Payton stated after Thursday's joint training camp practice with the Los Angeles Rams. "We'll get an MRI, and see where he's at with it, but nothing more [to share]."

It was an unfortunate turn of events, considering Jeudy had been performing well for the Broncos. He has been Denver's receiving yards leader in two of the past three seasons.

This included 972 receiving yards and six touchdowns in 2022.

Until Jeudy's MRI came out, Payton avoided making speculations. However, he is hoping for the best and praying that the injury will not be serious.

"It would be way too early to say," Payton said. "Typically in our system, too, we're bringing receivers in and out. He plays 'Z,' he plays in the sub position for us. Hopefully it's not anything long term."

Lombardi is bracing for the worst

Another person waiting for Jeudy's MRI result is offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi. If the injury is severe, other receivers may have to step up and take on more vital roles for the Broncos offense.

The former Alabama Crimson Tide is the latest wide receiver forced out, following Tim Patrick (Achilles tendon), KJ Hamler (heart ailment), Jalen Virgil (knee), and Brandon Johnson (leg)

"We'll see what the severity of his injury is. We've got a lot of guys in our room, some of them are going to have to step up. Things happen - I don't think of it as being snake-bitten or whatever," Lombardi stated.

Jeudy is likely to miss some weeks, according to sources cited by ESPN. The Denver Broncos open their 2023 NFL season on September 10 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
