Tim Tszyu is expected to be elevated to full WBO super welterweight champion status once Jermell Charlo steps into the ring on September 30 against Canelo Alvarez.

However, the Australian will need to get ready and defend the belt once it is made official since he will defend it against Brian Mendoza on October 15, No Limit Boxing confirmed on Wednesday, August 23.

"The Soul Taker" originally wanted to win the belt traditionally, inside the boxing ring against Charlo. But with bigger money on the table, the current undisputed light middleweight world champion opted to move up in weight to face the Mexican brawler.

Regardless, Tszyu still has Charlo on his radar. The Australian pug wants to face the winner of the Alvarez vs. Charlo fight, although he would need to dispose of Mendoza first.

"Charlo has gone the other way. Hopefully, we can get the winner of Canelo - Charlo because I feel that is a big fight to be made as well," Tszyu said when he spoke to Fight Hub TV.

Unfortunately for him, the chances of that happening do not look promising. The winner of the Alvarez vs. Charlo fight is unlikely to oblige since both are more likely to look at a rematch - depending on how the fight goes.

Aside from that, Tszyu will need to fight some more and rack in wins against other fighters before aiming for bigger names.

Among the fighters he may need to go through include Sebastian Fundora, Josh Kelly, Keith Thurman, and Charles Conwell, Boxing News 24 suggested.

The Australian boxer also mentioned Terence Crawford as one of his targets. But before going that far, he may want to think about Mendoza for now, someone who was pretty impressive in his last two fights.
