NBA veteran and three-time champion JaVale McGee is a free agent once more after getting waived by the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday, August 29.

The 35-year-old center signed a three-year deal worth $17.2 million with the Mavs last offseason. Unfortunately, expectations were not met.

McGee did start in seven of the Mavs first nine games last season but eventually fell out of the rotation and hardly saw action for the rest of the season, ESPN reported.

It remains to be seen if other teams will take a chance and pick up the 18th overall pick of the 2008 NBA Draft. McGee will likely be dangled a veteran's minimum next season and serve as a backup center while mentoring up and rising big men.

Among the teams that could take the 7-footer in include the Sacramento Kings, according to Chris Haynes of TNT, citing sources.

Any potential deal involving the three-time NBA champion is unlikely to shake up the current rotation of the Kings. Domantas Sabonis, Alex Len, and Nerlens Noel make up the Sacramento Kings frontline, with guys such as Trey Lyles and Neemias Queta as backups.

If a JaVale McGee deal does fall through, the King will end up with a crowded backup at center - further decreasing the chances of the Michigan native getting the proper playing time.

Other teams for McGee

Aside from the Kings, other teams that could make sense for McGee include a return to the Golden State Warriors or the Los Angeles Lakers.

It is no secret that the Warriors need a man in the middle, not to mention someone who could add muscle and veteran presence.

The Lakers, on the other hand, would also make sense, especially with the purple and gold looking for players who can play at a minimum wage.

Should this be his last hurrah in the NBA, a team that would make sense would be the Washington Wizards. After starting his career there in 2008, it seems only fitting he plays out his career with the same team that drafted him into the league.
