The Indianapolis Colts remain clueless about handling the Jonathan Taylor situation with the running back seeking a new deal.

The 24-year-old hoped to get a contract extension, but the Colts were unwilling to oblige. Colts general manager Chris Ballard shed light on the reason behind it.

Ballard said that they are willing to spend on great players. But the fact that they won only four games last NFL season changes the narrative, The Athletic reported.

Further, the fact that Taylor remains injured is another reason why the 2021 NFL Rushing Yards leader was placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

"Let's address the elephant ... Jonathan Taylor is well respected and a good human being and a damn good football player," the Colts general manager explained.

The Colts did discuss a potential deal with at least two NFL teams, the Miami Dolphins and the Green Bay Packers. That, unfortunately, bogged down when the two sides failed to come to an agreement.

While the details were not shared, the Dolphins and Packers were allegedly ready to offer the Pro Bowl running back a huge contract, one that would make the 2021 NFL rushing touchdowns leader one of the highest-paid backs in the league, Josina Anderson of CBS Sports claims citing an unnamed source.

Taylor could still be shipped to a new team by the NFL trade deadline. But for Ballard, he hopes they can still find a way to settle their differences and repair their relationship beforehand.
