New England Patriots cornerback Jack Jones may have evaded jail time for several weapons charges against him for an incident last June, but it does not mean he won't receive any punishment.

The NFL is still investigating the incident, and they can punish the 25-year-old based on their conduct policy.

"We have been monitoring developments in the matter which remains under review," NFL spokesperson Tim Schlittner said in an email

Jones was placed under custody after two firearms were found by authorities in his carry-on luggage at Boston's Logan Airport on June 16.

The 121st overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft pleaded not guilty and posted a $30,000 bail.

Entering his second NFL season this year, Jones recorded two interceptions and returned one for a touchdown in 13 games and two starts during his rookie season.

Jones was cleared from jail time on Tuesday, September 5, and he will serve one year of probation and 48 hours of community service in exchange for prosecutors dropping eight of the nine weapons charges against him.

Jack Jones will not play in Week 1

Despite clearing all legal hurdles, Jones will not be able to play during the Patriots' season-opener against the Philadelphia Eagles at home this Sunday, September 10, evening.

Jones is expected to miss some time after sustaining a hamstring injury during team practice on Wednesday, according to The Athletic's Jeff Howe.
