NFL quarterback Zach Wilson has been under much pressure since taking over from Aaron Rodgers, who saw his first season with the team start on the wrong foot.

The Jets have not exactly performed well as of late riding on Wilson. The 24-year-old play-caller has been getting backlash for his performance, most notably from NFL legend Joe Namath.

Wilson was unsurprisingly aware of the harsh criticism thrown by the 80-year-old. Now, he has responded to his comments appropriately, Yahoo Sports reported.

"We're doing everything we can," Wilson said. "The narrative outside the locker room is different than the narrative inside this locker room. I truly believe all the guys in this locker room have each others' back. I got theirs and feel like they got mine."

Jets use Namath comments as motivation

Rather than get into a word war with Namath, the Jets are respecting his opinion and using it as motivation to prove the NFL great wrong, ESPN reported.

"Joe Namath was a great, great football player. He has every right to his opinion, and we have every right to prove him wrong," Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett quipped.

Tight end comments

However, tight end Tyler Conklin admitted that Joe Namath's comments were a bit harsh, although he knew where the one-time Super Bowl MVP was coming from.

"I do understand the aspect of caring for the organization and wanting us to be successful and him being one of the greatest Jets. I do understand all those things. You've got to go out there and put a good product on the field... but I did think it was harsh. I think a lot of people could agree with that," Conklin explained.
