Gabe Kapler's time with the San Francisco Giants has officially come to a close.

This was after Giants President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zadi announced that the team decided to relieve the World Series champion coach on Saturday, September 30, via Alex Pavlovic of NBC Bay Sports Area.

"In his tenure as Giants manager, Gabe led our team through an unprecedented pandemic in 2020 and a franchise record 107 wins and postseason berth in 2021. He has been dedicated and passionate in his efforts to improve the on-field performance of the San Francisco Giants and I have tremendous respect for him as a colleague and a friend," part of Zadi's statement read via Bleacher Report.

What went wrong with Kapler?

The 48-year-old's fortunes took a bizarre turn after a memorable run with the Giants in 2021, where he architected a franchise record of 107 wins. The same year, he won the Manager of the Year in the National League.

The move is hardly surprising considering the Giants' unusual turn of events. After starting the season strong with a 49-41 record, things went downhill after the All-Star break and erased them from the postseason race.

Who will replace Kapler?

With Kapler out, the Giants will be on the prowl for a new manager. The names of Milwaukee Brewers Craig Counsell has been floated, a potential option once his deal with the Brewers runs out, CBS Sports reported.

However, the final say on who will replace Gabe Kapler will depend on Buster Posey. The 36-year-old is now involved with the ownership group, and Zaidi mentioned that he always considers his opinion.
