Mack Brown Return To Texas? Longhorns Coach Talks About Preparing For Spring Practice During Alamo Bowl Announcement [VIDEO]

Mack Brown has his coachspeak down, but someone with 30 years of head coaching experience should know how to say something without saying anything.

The Houston Chronicle reported that the Texas head coach talked about next year's spring practice and getting the returning players on the Longhorns team a jump on next season during the program's announcement that it had accepted a bid in the Dec. 30 Alamo Bowl against Oregon in San Antonio, Texas.

"Being that (Texas) has been in the second most bowl games ever, you need to win your last game regardless of where you are coaching and that is something all our guys are aware of," Brown said. "They really enjoy playing in bowl games and it gives you a chance to get out of the box. ... Playing Oregon State last year and playing Iowa earlier in the decade and now having the chance to play Oregon that is as good as anybody in the country.

"It gives you a month to prepare, you do a lot of stuff for spring practice, you are working on your team for the future and, at the same time, you have one last game for your seniors. We talked about Senior Night being at home (against Texas Tech) but really and truly your Senior Night is the bowl game."

The Chronicle said the comments made it seem like Brown is intent on returning next season.

If that were the case, however, then Brown or Texas president Bill Powers or athletic Steve Patterson would've said something to that effect to allay the fears of any Longhorns recruits who may look elsewhere because of the uncertainty hanging over Brown's future.

That announcement has yet to have been made, keeping Brown's tenuous hold on the position still very much up in the air.
