Jameis Winston Rape Case Update: Sex Assault Accuser's Family To Hold Press Conference Day Before Heisman Award Show [VIDEO]

The family of the woman who accused Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston of sexual assault plans to hold a press conference the day before the redshirt freshman will learn if he will win this year's coveted Heisman Trophy award.

According to CollegeFootballTalk.com, family attorney Patricia Carroll is expected to address the way State Attorney Willie Meggs handled his investigation in arriving at his decision not to seek criminal charges on behalf of her client on Friday.

The fellow FSU student accused Winston of attacking her at an off-campus party on the night of Dec. 7, 2012 where she admittedly had been drinking. The case languished in obscurity for more than a year after Tallahassee police were slow to turn their initial findings over to prosecutors.

As always this year's Heisman Trophy winner will be named during a Saturday night ceremony in New York City, all but assuring Winston will again be dogged by persistent questioning related to the case. The 19-year-old star of the top-ranked Seminoles recently walked off the field in the middle of an interview when he was peppered by ESPN's Heather Cox about the now dismissed case.

Winston will join Alabama's A.J. McCarron, Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel, Auburn's Tre Mason, Boston College's Andre Williams and Northern Illinois' Jordan Lynch in New York as this year's finalists for the award.
