Jets Quarterbacking Problem: 3 Risks New York Faces in Turing to Trevor Siemian

The New York Jets may turn to a new quarterback in their next assignment against the Houston Texans on December 12.

This was after Tim Boyle, the third play-caller that Jets coach Robert Saleh tried, failed to make a good impression against the Atlanta Falcons. The Jets lost to the Falcons, 13-8, on Sunday, December 3. It was the Jets' fifth straight loss.

The only person left for Saleh to try out is Trevor Siemian. The opportunity to start for the Jets had always been mentioned, and it appears the Jets may have nothing to lose if they take a chance on the 31-year-old quarterback who has had stints with multiple NFL teams in his career.

For now, however, Saleh is keeping everything close to their chest, telling reporters that he is still not quite there as far as who will be his starting QB against the Texans, ESPN reported.

"I'm not there yet with regard to next week," Saleh said.

Siemian break-in has started

Trevor Siemian had a chance to show what he had against the Falcons. He took over from Boyle in the fourth quarter in the Jets' first possession. But with his limited time, gauging what the Super Bowl champion QB could do was not enough.

Would Siemian be better getting the starting nod in the Jets' next game? Given Saleh's frustrations on Zach Wilson and Boyle since losing Aaron Rodgers at the start of the season, he may have nothing to lose.

NBC Sports reported that Siemian played two games and made one start against the Jets when he was still with the Chicago Bears last season. He had a chance to start with the Jets in 2019.

Is Siemian fully healed from his knee injury?

One thing that will be concerning for the Jets is Siemian's health status. With the Bears, he underwent season-ending surgery for his oblique injury.

He did try his luck with the Cincinnati Bengals earlier this year. Unfortunately, he competed, lost to Jake Browning for the starting QB job, and was eventually released.

Given his up-and-down chances since injuries started to show, it will be interesting if Siemian can make a good impression and give the Jets some signs of life.

Siemian needs to do something to boost Jets' chances of winning

Tied to his stints in previous years, Siemian needs to dig deep and come up with something special to snap the Jets' five-game losing spell.

Being a veteran, the former Northwestern Wildcat knows that a good showing may only be a short-term lease. This point must be considered, especially with a potential Aaron Rodgers return.

At this point, the Jets have nothing more to lose. Saleh is unlikely to stick with Boyle and may even consider Wilson anew.

The Jets will need all the help they can get right now. New York is a 5.5-point spread underdog against Houston, with the Moneyline set at +190 for the Jets and -230 for Houson per OddsSharks.com.
