Undrafted rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito has become a pleasant surprise for the New York Giants this season.

After the season-ending ACL injury to starting quarterback Daniel Jones in November and a temporary absence of backup Tyrod Taylor due to a rib injury, DeVito took on the primary signal-caller role for the team last month.

Since then, the Giants secured three consecutive victories, defeating the Washington Commanders, New England Patriots, and the Green Bay Packers over the past month.

Their string of victories has enabled them to stay alive for a playoff spot after a 2-8 start to the 2023 NFL season.

For the season, the former Syracuse and Illinois player has completed 83 passes in 126 attempts, amassing 855 yards, eight touchdowns, three interceptions, and a passer rating of 96.5 points.

Such impressive performances have sparked calls from fans, observers, and his agent to promote the 25-year-old to the starting quarterback role over Jones.

3 Reasons Giants Should Make Tommy DeVito Their Permanent QB1:

1. Tommy DeVito has led them to wins.

DeVito has achieved a 3-1 record in his four starts, making him the only Giants signal-caller with a winning record this season. For comparison, Jones has a history of 1-5 when starting, while Taylor is 1-2.

In addition to his 3-1 record as a starter, DeVito's passer rating of 96.5 ranks him eighth overall in the entire NFL, with only Houston Texans star C.J. Stroud ahead of him among rookie starters.

2. Tommy DeVito has a cheaper contract.

DeVito is currently on a three-year deal worth $2.7 million and will only be making at least $750,000 this season.

On the other hand, the Giants recently signed Jones to a four-year contract worth $160 million last March, with the first two years guaranteed, paying him $46 million this season and $36 million in 2024, totaling $82 million.

On the other hand, Taylor is on a two-year deal worth $11 million, earning $5.5 million this year.

If DeVito continues to perform at a high level, it would make sense for the Giants to stick with him, enabling them to use the remaining funds to strengthen the team around him.

3. Tommy DeVito has a great story.

DeVito has a fascinating background story, having grown up near the team.

Hailing from New Jersey, his family home is just nine miles from the Giants' practice facility and MetLife Stadium, making it a 12-minute drive.

Using this convenience, DeVito continues to live with his parents as his NFL career unfolds. This setup also allows him to focus on football entirely.

DeVito and his family have endeared themselves to the fanbase by generously giving away food for tailgates in the parking lot before Giants games.

This close rapport between the player and the fanbase benefits the team and can serve as a foundation for broader marketing opportunities.
