Will Russell Wilson be trading in his shoulder pads for a baseball glove? It's highly unlikely, but the Texas Rangers astonishingly selected the Seattle Seahawks quarterback in Major League Baseball's Rule 5 Draft on Thursday.
According to USA Today Sports, it is unclear why the Rangers would select the quarterback, but the rules to the draft state that teams are allowed to choose players that have spent at least four years in another team's farm system without being added to a team's 40-man roster and Wilson played Class A baseball in the Colorado Rockies organization in 2010 and 2011.
According to reports, the Rangers spent $12,000 to get the rights to Wilson, who is set to lead the Seattle Seahawks (11-2) against the New York Giants this Sunday at MetLife Stadium--the venue where Wilson very well may return to play in the Super Bowl this February.
The Rangers will likely be unable to convince Wilson to change sports, but the second-year quarterback hit .229 in 315 minor league at-bats during his stint as a baseball player. He also boasted a .315 on-base percentage.

In his second year under center for the Seahawks, Wilson is 213-for-330 (64.5%) for 2,871 yards with 23 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He's also rushed for 458 yards on 81 attempts while reaching the end zone once.
Wilson's athleticism is no secret, and he could possibly make a decent player on the diamond, but his football career trumps any baseball goals.
Wilson will take the field this Sunday at MetLife Stadium against the Giants, and it is more likely Super Bowl aspirations will be on his mind rather than thoughts of winning a World Series or playing baseball for the Texas Rangers.
