Records are meant to be broken they say but there are just some that should be left untouched.

That is what the Detroit Pistons failed to do after falling to the Brooklyn Nets, 112-118, to record the longest losing streak in a season at 27.

They started the new season 2-1 by winning against the Charlotte Hornets and the Chicago Bulls in their second and third game. They haven't seen the light since.

The longest successive losing streak is at 28 set by the Philadelphia 76ers although it spanned two seasons. They ended the 2014-2015 season with 10 straight defeats and started the next season by losing 18 straight times.

Pistons eclipsed the record set by the Cleveland Cavaliers (26 losses) in the 2010-2011 season when Lebron James left them for the Miami Heat.

Their next games are against the number one team in the league, Boston Celtics, and the Toronto Raptors. There is a chance that they will end the year without winning a game in two months.

Pistons could use a diversion with this heartache and embarrassing record.

Well, there are several dishonorable records in the NBA. Whether it is worse than that of the Pistons is subject.

Here are three of them:

1. 27 straight missed threes by the Rockets

There is something about 27. It is the same number that the Houston Rockets missed in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals, setting a record for most consecutive threes missed in a playoff game.

Rockets, then led by James Harden and Chris Paul, were poised to slay their ghosts in Golden State Warriors after taking a 3-2 lead in Game 5.

Just when the Dubs took control of the third quarter in the series-clinching game, the Rockets could not buy anything beyond the arc.

Yes, 27 straight losses by the Pistons are embarrassing but missing 27 straight threes that could've changed history is more painful.

2. Worst field goal percentage and lowest score in a game by a team (Chicago Bulls)

Which one is more likely to be broken, Pistons' record-losing streak or the 1998-1999 Bulls' 23.4 percent field goal?

Detroit's record might be eclipsed in the future but the Bulls' worst field-goal percentage by a team in modern era will probably stay as the game becomes more offense-minded.

The Bulls set the record against the Miami Heat in the 1998-1999 season where they only made 18 (total of 49 points) out of their 77 shot attempts. The San Antonio Spurs almost ended the record in 2000 when they shot 23.7 percent from the field in the loss against Toronto.

3. Most 3-pointers missed in a game without a make (Denver Nuggets)

Three-point shooting was developing into a must-have among NBA teams' arsenal by the early 2010s.

This is why the Denver Nuggets' zero threes made against the Portland Trail Blazers in 2012 was baffling. They attempted 22 threes and did not make one, a record in the NBA. The interesting part was they only lost by eight points, 101-93.

The Mile High team had streak shooter JR Smith at that time, making the record more unfathomable.

"The rhythm of the game was not in our favor, and our guys seemed to be worn out a little bit," Nuggets coach George Karl said of the embarrassing record they set.

"If you make two threes it's a different basketball game - a totally different game. It's not time to panic or anything. We just didn't have enough shooters out there."
