The Super Bowl 58 is the most watched American telecast of the 21st century after viewership rating was released.

CBS reported that the Las Vegas game between eventual champions, Kansas City Chiefs, and the San Francisco 49ers was watched by around 123 million viewers, surpassing the most-watched NFL game record last year between the Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.

It peaked at 129 million viewers during the half-time show of R&B singer, Usher.

"The highly anticipated showdown in Las Vegas surpassed the previous most-watched Super Bowl in history, a record set just last year when the Chiefs mounted a second-half comeback to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles in front of 115 million viewers," CBS wrote in its report.

The Super Bowl 58 ratings attest to the power of the NFL which is considered the most favorite American sport.

This year's edition of the national championship is the most viewed NFL game ever.

There is only one TV moment it did not beat but one can say that Super Bowl 58 almost reached the apex.

"The audience for Super Bowl LVIII was so large that it approached the all-time most watched television broadcast in the United States set in 1969, when an estimated 125 to 150 million viewers watched the Apollo 11 moon landing," CBS continued.

The NFL record was expected to be broken even before the match kicked off as the game featured two of the most popular NFL teams in the league.

NFL has a case against the Apollo 11 Moon Landing

The Apollo 11 moon landing is one of the most momentous events in world history as it was the first time that humans walked on the moon. It is described as "one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind."

It was broadcast on live TV to a worldwide audience and reportedly anticipated by 125 to 150 million.

The NFL might have a case against these numbers.

Super Bowl games' ratings reach their peak during the half-time show. The Apollo Moon Landing viewership is an estimate.

Michael Jackson's half-time show during Super Bowl 27 drew 133.4 million people, making it the most-watched intermission ever in league history.

Usher's performance last Sunday drew 129 million to seal the second spot, followed by Rihanna's from last year which drew 121 million.

The Apollo Moon Landing is also considered a news event and not a telecast. For that, Super Bowl 58 takes the cake.

Where does Super Bowl 58 rank in All-Time championship ratings?

Excluding the moon landing event, the Super Bowl occupies the top 10 list of most viewed telecasts in terms of average viewership.

The second spot goes to Super Bowl 57 with 115 million average viewership, followed by Super Bowl 49 in 2015 between the New England Patriots (winners) and the Seattle Seahawks.

The Top 5 is rounded up by the Super Bowl 48 in 2014 and Super Bowl 50 in 2016.
