Nets Ben Simmons To Miss Rest of Regular Season

The Brooklyn Nets announced that Ben Simmons will miss the rest of the regular season due to ongoing back problems.

Simmons would seek further counsel from a specialist for treatment options pertaining to a pinched nerve in his lower back.

"Ben Simmons will remain out for the remainder of the season while he consults with specialists and explores treatment options for the nerve impingement in his lower back," the team said in a statement.

"Simmons, along with his representatives and Nets medical personnel, are currently in discussions with numerous experts to determine the course of action that will provide him with the best opportunity for long-term sustainable health."

Simmons only played in 15 games this season due to lingering back issues and has recently missed 38 straight games due to the injury.

Simmons Career for the Brooklyn Nets so Far

Ben Simmons was drafted with the number one pick in the 2016 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. He rose as one of the best players in the league by making two All-Star games, an All-Defensive team, and an All-NBA third-team selection early in his career.

Things took a turn for the worst when the 76ers lost Game 7 of the 2021 Eastern Conference Semifinals to the Hawks.

Friction with the front office would cause Simmons' time with the 76ers to end unceremoniously when he was traded in 2022, in a deal that sent Harden to Philadelphia.

During his time in Brooklyn he has missed 42 games in 2022-23, but this season is now shut down early due to his back issues. Simmons has only played a total of 57 games total with the franchise in only two years.

Simmons showed a return to form on January 29th, when he logged 10 points, 11 assists, and eight rebounds in 18 minutes off the bench in a rout of Utah. But he has since played in only eight more games and has struggled overall in games he has played in.
