The Chiefs look to clinch a postseason berth with a win while the Raiders are hoping that they can avoid losing a fourth straight game.
Kansas City ended a three-game losing streak by handing the Washington Redskins a 40-10 loss last Sunday to bounce back from their worst skid of the season after starting out 10-0.
"I think that there are ups and downs in the National Football League," Chiefs coach Andy Reid said via ESPN. "I think you need to learn how to handle them and you can't get too high for the highs and you can't get too low for the lows."
A win over Oakland will punch the Chiefs ticket to the postseason while a Miami loss or tie with New England or a Baltimore loss or tie to Detroit could also help the Chiefs reach the playoffs.
"It's a big deal," said receiver Dexter McCluster, according to ESPN. "Having a chance to play in the postseason, you know, that's what we play for. Let the chips fall where they may right now."
McCluster has 46 receptions for 439 yards with one touchdown.
Running back Jamaal Charles rushed 19 times last week for a season-high 151 yards to bring his total to 1,162 yards on the ground on 238 carries for 10 scores. Quarterback Alex Smith has thrown for half of his season total of touchdowns over the last four games to bring his total to 18 scores while going 275-for-460 (59.8) while throwing for 2,873 yards with six picks.
The Raiders are coming off of a 37-27 loss to the New York Jets, and Matt McGloin is expected to make his fifth straight start today. McGloin is 80-for-140 (57.1%) for 1,044 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions.
Oakland is in the middle of its 11th straight season without a winning record.
"I think we're a lot closer," coach Dennis Allen told ESPN. "Obviously the record doesn't say so. We all recognize that at the end of the day this is a production business. We understand that you are what your record says you are. But I also know there's a lot of areas where this football team has improved."
Darren McFadden (ankle) is out and Rashad Jennings (concussion) is probable.
Kansas City looks to punch its ticket to the playoffs while Oakland hopes to avoid a four-game losing streak when they take the field this afternoon.
