Toronto Raptors forward RJ Barrett has rejoined the team and addressed the media for the first time since the tragic passing of his brother earlier this month.

Nathan Tyler Barrett, the 19-year-old brother of the Raptors wing, tragically passed away on March 12, according to a statement released by the team and Canada Basketball.

"This one is definitely a little different, it's a lot tougher, and I just think that you've gotta push forward every day, gotta be able to try to figure it out. If I know my brother, he would want me to be here, to be playing, to try to continue to make the Barrett legacy grow," the 23-year-old told the media during team practice on Friday, March 29.

Barrett's father, Rowan, is also the general manager of the country's men's national basketball team, which is why the franchise and Canada's basketball federation issued a joint statement regarding the tragic event.

RJ Barrett still makes usual habit with brother

The former Knicks star revealed that he still communicates with his brother, even after his passing.

"You know he was my best friend. I'm always missing him. I still text him. I still call them sometimes, but yeah, just a tough time but I'm thankful for just all the support from everybody," Barrett admitted.

The cause of his brother's passing was not disclosed, although reports indicated that he had been ill for several weeks leading up to his demise.
