LSU Women's Basketball: LA Times Apologizes for 'Sexist' Article Called out by Kim Mulkey

The Los Angeles Times has revised a controversial column regarding the LSU Tigers and Iowa Hawkeyes women's basketball teams and issued an apology in a note appended to the updated version.

Initially, the outlet published an article depicting the LSU Tigers as "villains" in contrast to the Iowa Hawkeyes, whom they characterized as "sweethearts."

"The original version of this commentary did not meet Times editorial standards. It has been edited to remove language that was inappropriate and offensive," LA Times added to the column's header.

Aside from the title, an excerpt also referred to the Iowa Hawkeyes as "America's sweethearts" and the LSU Tigers as "dirty debutantes," using the imagery of "milk and cookies" versus "Louisiana hot sauce" to contrast the two teams.

Ben Bolch, the journalist who wrote the article, posted a lengthy apology statement on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

LSU head coach Kim Mulkey expressed discontent with how the article portrayed her team.

She expressed her frustrations following the team's 78-69 victory over the UCLA Bruins in the Sweet 16 on Saturday, March 30.

"The one thing I'm not going to let you do, I'm not going to let you attack young people, and there were some things in this commentary that you should be offended by as women. It was so sexist. It was good versus evil in that game today. Evil? Called us dirty debutantes? Are you kidding me?," the 61-year-old tactician stated.
