Lakers' LeBron James Breaks Silence on Bronny James' NBA Draft, Transfer Portal Decisions

Los Angeles Lakers star has expressed unwavering support for his eldest son, Bronny, as he navigates significant choices in his basketball career.

Reposting Bronny's official announcement on his own Instagram Story, the NBA's all-time leading scorer wrote a series of emojis, including a king, brown hearts, and prayer hands.

Though his message was concise, James's backing for his son was unmistakable. 

Reports initially emerged on Tuesday, April 2, indicating that Bronny would be entering the transfer portal following one season with the USC Trojans.

However, the 18-year-old officially announced on Friday, April 5, his decision to declare for the 2024 NBA Draft while simultaneously entering the NCAA transfer portal. 

Bronny James aims to retain flexibility on decision

James aims to maintain flexibility on his options regarding the decision he made.

The 6-foot-4 combo guard intends to conduct workouts and visit with NBA teams, ultimately making his draft decision based on evaluations by scouts, according to league insider Shams Charania of The Athletic.

In his freshman year with the Trojans, James posted averages of 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 0.8 steals per game while playing 19.4 minutes. He appeared in 25 games, starting in six. 

James' season began with a setback as he missed the first eight games due to a sudden cardiac arrest during the team's off-season workouts in July 2023.
