MLB Free Agency Rumors [VIDEO]: Shin-Soo Choo Turns Down $140 Million Offer From Yankees?

Free agent outfielder Shin-Soo Choo is rumored to be a pretty expensive acquisition for any team that tries to land him this offseason; he reportedly couldn't be swayed by a seven-year $140 million offer from the New York Yankees earlier in this offseason.

According to Yahoo Sports, Choo was offered the seven-year $140 million offer from the Bronx Bombers and his agent Scott Boras turned it down on behalf of his client. Boras asked the Yankees to offer Choo a contract similar to the $153 million deal they signed Jacoby Ellsbury to this offseason, but the Yankees wouldn't budge.

The Yankees decided not to add more money onto the offer, walked away from Choo and then inked Carlos Beltran to a three-year $45 million contract while Choo has yet to find a new home.

According to Yahoo! Sports, the Yankees have declined to comment on the offer they supposedly gave Choo and Boras that was ultimately not accepted. While Choo has yet to accept any offers, reports from Sports Illustrated indicate that he has multiple offers on the table from different teams, including the Houston Astros. The report also indicates that the entire Astros roster from last year combined added up to less than the salary that Choo is asking for from the team.

Yahoo! Sports reported that the Texas Rangers also had interest in Choo but have shifted their focus to Japanese pitcher Masahiro Tanaka.

Choo debuted with the Seattle Mariners in 2005 and also spent time with the Cleveland Indians before landing with the Cincinnati Reds for the 2013 season.

Last season, Choo hit .285 with 21 homers and 54 RBIs for Cincinnati. For his career, he has appeared in 853 games while boasting a career average of .288 to go along with 104 homers and 427 RBIs.

It remains to be seen where Choo will land, but two things are guaranteed: it won't be with the New York Yankees and it will be for more than $140 million over seven years.
