WWE Backlash 2025 promises to be one of the hottest events of the year. Who would not be excited especially if the main event is between Randy Orton and John Cena?
Scheduled to happen in St. Louis, Missouri, Orton's hometown, this "last time ever" encounter will witness the new heel facing off against the seasoned Orton in a title match.
But, as thrilling as the game is, The Viper has been uncertain about what to anticipate from the audience during this extremely emotional confrontation.
Orton's Unexpected Role as the Good Guy
Orton, who is notorious for his ruthless, heel character, will instead play the baby face in this bout. This change has Orton wondering what type of response he and Cena will get.
In an interview with Billboard before the event, Orton admitted that he doesn't know how the St. Louis audience will respond to the two WWE legends.
"It's different because I'm the good guy, and that's never been the case before, so I don't know what to expect. I wouldn't say I'm nervous, but I'm very excited to see because usually I know the type of reaction I'm going to get, or at least I know the type of reaction I want," the 45-year-old pro wrestler added.
This is a major departure for Orton's character, who often played the WWE villain and traitor. Given this transition, it's just normal to feel something different towards this storyline.
Orton's Hometown Advantage? Not So Fast
Even though he is from St. Louis, Orton isn't necessarily counting on the hometown support. Unlike some other hometown favorites who come into town wearing jerseys and cheering on local teams, Orton prefers a more reclusive lifestyle when he's home.
Orton explained that he's not out there representing his city. He admitted that he's a homebody who just takes care of his wife and kids in their town.
This candidness has seen Orton have second thoughts regarding the welcome he will get on Saturday. Even though it's certain that he will receive a warm reception from the crowd, Orton remains wary, acknowledging that Cena is equally a darling and might prove to be the crowd favorite himself.
Can John Cena Defend This WWE Championship Title?
Before his showdown with Orton, Cena will appear on Friday's episode of SmackDown, according to WrestleTalk.
Given the "Last Time Ever" tagline given to the match, WWE fans think this will be a historic and classic fight between the two wrestlers. What's more interesting is if Cena can defend his WWE championship title against RKO himself.
