Veteran wide receiver Gabe Davis is rumored to be moving to another team this NFL offseason.

The free-agent WR is scheduled to visit the New Orleans Saints this week, as part of a whirlwind run of team visits that has caused a stir around the league.

The 26-year-old receiver recently met with the Pittsburgh Steelers but departed without signing. According to NFL TR, Davis has also met with the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Giants, indicating that several franchises remain interested in his potential as a vertical threat and red-zone receiver.

While no deal has resulted from his previous visits, Davis' sit-down with the Saints suggests the receiver may be nearing a contract ahead of training camps opening up, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.

Jaguars Still Owe Davis Despite Early Release

Davis' free agency experience has been far from standard. Following a three-year, $39 million contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars during the 2024 offseason, the Jaguars waived him unexpectedly when he couldn't pass a physical.

Though released, the Jaguars remain financially obligated to pay Davis' 2025 salary, giving his situation even more distinction among free agents.

His release opened an option for teams to possibly acquire a high-upside weapon without taking on all of the financial strain of his new contract.

From Buffalo Bills Breakout to Uncertain Future

Initially signed in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills from UCF, Davis established himself as a big-play receiver quickly.

In his four-year, $5.7 million rookie contract, Davis provided glimpses of stardom, notably in the playoffs. In 2023, under the NFL's Proven Performance Escalator program, Davis earned $ 2.7 million as he completed his rookie contract.

Davis then landed on the open market in 2024 and appeared poised to make the next leap in his career with the Jaguars. Injuries and inconsistency, however, ultimately truncated that tenure.

2024 Stats Reflect Glimpses of Production

Although his stay with the Jaguars was short-lived, Davis saw action and made modest contributions in a limited role. He appeared in 10 games, catching 20 passes on 42 targets for 239 yards and two touchdowns. While not staggering, those stats were recorded during a crowded receiving corps and with reduced opportunities due to injury issues.

In full health now, Davis might be a high-upside candidate for those seeking size, veteran presence, and deep-threat skills.

With the Saints now in the mix, Gabe Davis is definitely on the list of interest for several franchises in need of veteran wide receiver assistance.

If Davis remains healthy and finds himself in the proper system, he might be the most consequential late-offseason signing of 2025.
