Tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET, the Minnesota Wild (20-13-5, 45 points) and Philadelphia Flyers (16-16-4, 36 points) hit the ice at the Wells Fargo Center for the second and final meeting against each other this season. Minnesota enters play hoping to salvage the last game of a three-game road trip after dropping the first two contests while Philadelphia comes in off of suffering a loss to split a home-and-home with the St. Louis Blues. The first time these two teams met, the Wild blanked the Flyers 2-0 on Dec. 2 in MInnesota.
The Wild are coming off of a 4-1 loss to the New York Rangers on Sunday night.
"I think once they scored that first one, and then especially when they got that second one, I think we became a little demoralized and kind of changed the way we were playing the game," Zach Parise told NHL.com. "That was for the most part I thought the big difference. Once they got that second goal, we became a little flustered and just were never able to regain any momentum."
The Wild have been led by Parise (15-12-27), Mikko Koivu (7-20-27) and Jason Pominville (17-8-25) thus far this season. Pominville has goals in back-to-back games.
After beating the Blues in the first half of a home-and-home, the Flyers allowed four goals in the third period and lost 6-3 Saturday night.
"We were sitting back too much, maybe asleep in the third period," Flyers defenseman Luke Schenn told CSNPhilly.com. "We had a pretty good end to the second period. I don't know if we thought they would just give up. I don't know what it was, but it was unacceptable to come out in the third period like that."
The Flyers have been led by Claude Giroux (9-22-31), Jakub Voracek (9-14-23) and Wayne Simmonds (8-11-19). Simmonds has three goals and one assist in his last three games.
Steve Mason is likely to start for Philadelphia and is 13-9-4 with a 2.40 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage while with Josh Harding (multiple sclerosis treatment) sidelined, Niklas Backstrom will likely start for Minnesota and is 2-7-2 with a 3.19 GAA and a .895 save percentage.
The Wild will try to salvage their final road game before the Christmas break while the Flyers will look to bounce back from a loss when these teams faceoff tonight in Philadelphia.
