Brooklyn Nets head coach Jason Kidd, who is reportedly in the hot seat because of his team's poor record despite boasting of the league's highest payroll, denied a recent report that he has lost the support of his players saying that the news was just made up.
As quoted by TheBrooklynGame.com, Kidd said of the report of columnist Adrian Wojnarowski: "I just coach and get my guys ready." He continued after the team defeated the Milwaukee Bucks, 104-93 on Friday night: "I can't answer to what you guys make up. I'm sorry. I don't have an answer to that question."
Citing team sources, Wojnarowski wrote that Kidd had lost the Nets locker room as the team has struggled to a 9-19 start. However, several Nets players aired their support to the embattled head coach following their latest victory.
"Jason's been talking with me and the coaching staff has been talking with me," point guard Shaun Livingston said after putting up 20 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds in the win. "It's an up-and-down season, the hardest thing to do is to stay consistent."
Franchise star Deron Williams as well as forwards Kevin Garnett and Mirza Teletovic likewise provided words of encouragement and support to the coach. Garnett, an 18-year veteran who has also struggled with career-low averages of 6.8 points and 7 rebounds a game, acknowledged that keeping a locker room together takes time.
"(We're) trying to work through what Jason wants us to do. It's not easy at times, but we've been trying to be consistent with listening and being positive."
