New York Jets Quarterback Change? [VIDEO] Gang Green May Not Stick With Geno Smith In 2014

After an up-and-down rookie season that was capped off with a strong finish, the New York Jets haven't fully committed to Geno Smith being the team's quarterback for the 2014 season.

NFL.com reports that general manager John Idzik noted at the eteam's end-of-season news conference that Smith may not be the Jets answer going forward.

"We're all excited about having Geno as part of the Jets, but we will always look to improve every position in any manner we can and that doesn't change going into 2014," Idzik said, via the New York Daily News. "We'll look at quarterbacks. Yes, we'll look at quarterbacks."

Smith earned the Jets starting job for 2013 after Mark Sanchez went down with a shoulder injury in the team's thirdp reseason game against the New York Giants, and had a lot of highs and lows throughout the year.Smith started all 16 games of his rookie campaign and mounted 3,046 passing yards, 12 touchdown passes 21 interceptions while adding six rushing scores.

Smith showed the ability to lead the Jets this season while he also had some games where his insufficient play singole-handedly hampered the team's ability to win games, but he has stayed positive through it all.

"He's a very resilient young man," Idzik said of Smith. "For him to start all 16 games, go through the highs and lows of an NFL season and just to see him develop as a player, see him handle a game, see him be more efficient in the pocket, his accuracy, threatening with his legs, all of the things that he did, they were very positive."

Sanchez will likely be gone heading into 2014, and the Jets will try and find a veteran quarterback to push and teach Smith.

Smith will get his chance to earn the starting job for the Jets next season, but nothing is guaranteed.
