Amidst his 19th NBA season, Kevin Garnett is growing more and more frustrated with the Brooklyn Nets' futility and his own play. The Nets (10-21) have lost six of their last seven games and the mounting disappointment of a team that was slated to be championship caliber has gotten to one of the team's biggest offseason acquisitions.
"The most frustrating thing about me is I could see if I wasn't hitting shots and I wasn't in here working or taking [expletive] days off," Garnett said, according to the New York Daily News. "But I put time into my craft for it to come out. But then that's rhythm on offense. And I don't have that right now."
Garnett is averaging career lows in many statistical categories including points per game (6.5), rebounds per game (6.9), field-goal percentage (36.4) and minutes per game (21.5). Garnett is a 15-time All-Star and won the NBA championship with the Boston Celtics back in 2008 while also taking home the NBA's Most Valuable Player Award in 2004.
He's a future Hall of Famer, but this season it doesn't show.
Garnett is 1-for-10 in shooting over his last two games and was held without a field goal in the Nets most recent 113-92 loss to the San Antonio Spurs.
Garnett, 37, was brought into Brooklyn to help the team's defense--which he said coming into the season could be top-3 in the league--but the unit is currently ranked 28th in defensive efficiency, ESPN reports.
"I show up every day and I try to be a professional and give everything I have. You put Father Time on top of that, it doesn't help," Garnett said, according to the Daily News.
Garnett waived his no-trade clause to allow the Celtics to trade him along with small forward Paul Pierce and guard Jason Terry in the deal that brought him to Brooklyn. If Garnett continues to play next season, he will get a guaranteed $12 million.
The nightmarish season continues Thursday night when the Nets play the Thunder in Oklahoma City.
