Brandon Jacobs Retires [VIDEO]: Giants RB Calls It A Career, 'Hanging Up My Cleats'

New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs took to Twitter Thursday night to announce that he is retiring after nine seasons in the NFL that saw him take home two Super Bowl championships with the G-Men.

Jacobs played with the Giants for eight of his nine seasons and had a stint with the San Francisco 49ers last season before re-joining Big Blue this season. He appeared in seven games for the Giants this season and rushed for 238 yards while adding four scores, including a performance where he rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns against the Chicago Bears.

Jacobs' season ended when he had to undergo cartilage graft surgery on his left knee, and he decided to take to social media Thursday night to announce that he was done with the NFL:

His full statement on the site read as follows: "After 9 years in this whirlwind business they call the NFL, I am proud to announce that I am hanging up my cleats. I've had an amazing run and I appreciate all of the support from the fans through the good and the bad. The New York Giants are a great organization and I am proud to have been a part of it for so long. I love my coaches and my teammates and will miss them as well as the game itself but I am healing well from my surgery and I look forward to running around with my kids for years to come!"

Jacobs, 31, said as recently as Monday that he wasn't sure what the future held for him and that he was undecided on whether or not he'd play next season. Jacobs had opted to re-join the Giants for a final run this season rather than sign a one-day deal with the Giants to finish his career there.

Jacobs said if he did play in 2014 it would only be with the Giants.

"I'll only be playing here," Jacobs said Monday per ESPN. "Screw all them other teams. I'm a Giant, man. I tried that already. I'm a Giant. I'm a Giant up and down."

Jacobs was New York's fourth-round pick in 2005 and played with the team from 2005-11. He only played two games with the 49ers in 2012 before ending up back on the Giants for this past season. He is the Giants all-time leader in rushing touchdowns with 60 and ranks fourth all-time in rushing yards with 5,087.

After two Super Bowl rings and ranking high atop the franchise's all-time leaders list, Jacobs is calling it a career.
