The AFC North-winning Bengals seek to end their 23-year playoff victory drought while San Diego enters play on the heels of a three-year period without a playoff berth.
After four-straight NFL West division crowns between 2006-09, the Chargers finished in second place the last three years and missed the playoffs.
"It's been a real long time so it feels great to be back in," said quarterback Philip Rivers, who led the NFL in completion percentage at a career-best 69.5 percent, according to ESPN.
Rivers went 378-for-544 in the regular season for 4,478 yards with 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
The Andy Dalton-led Bengals made the playoffs for the third straight season and have appeared in the postseason in four out of their last five campaigns, but the team hasn't been able to go very deep.
Dalton went 363-for-586 (61.9%) for 4,293 yards with 33 scores and 20 picks in the regular season.
"People can keep saying whatever they want because we haven't won a playoff game," Dalton said via ESPN. "You've got to win. That's what it comes down to. And for us to get where we want to go, we need to win. That's the way it works. For me, we need to get a win in this one."
Mark Lewis is 0-4 in the playoffs while coaching the Bengals and will look to prove that his team can win.
"We've just got to go play," Lewis said per ESPN. "We're not going to get any of you to shut up about it until we win."
Mike McCoy, meanwhile, has led the Chargers to the postseason in his first season with the club.
"We've been on a playoff run for the last month really, to be honest with you," McCoy told ESPN. "We were 5-7, no one gave us the chance. And we just said, 'Listen, just take care of the next opponent and see what happens.' It's going to be the same thing this week."
The Bengals defeated the Chargers 17-10 on Dec. 1 and will be looking to do it again on a grander stage. It will be a tough task for the Chargers to have a better outcome tonight as the team is entering a cold stadium and will face a team that went 8-0 at home in the regular season.
The stakes are high as the Chargers and Bengals mix it up in the Wild-Card playoffs today in Cincinnati.
