Jerry Sandusky Penn State: Disgraced Former Coach Seeking Pension From University? [VIDEO]

Disgraced former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky is petitioning to have the retirement benefits he lost after being convicted of child abuse reinstituted.

According to USA TODAY, the jailed Sandusky was scheduled to participate by video link on Tuesday in a proceeding at the headquarters of the State Employees' Retirement System in Harrisburg seeking to have the benefits restored.

During Tuesday's proceedings, his wife, Dottie, sat in the courtroom, while the 69-year-old longtime assistant of the legendary Joe Paterno was linked in from the southwestern Pennsylvania prison where he has been held since his October 2012 conviction.

Sandusky's nearly $5,000 a-month-pension ended following his conviction and he was sentenced to up to 60 years for sexually abusing 10 underaged boys.

Sandusky served as a top assistant to the now deceased Paterno for more than 30 years and was named Assistant Coach of the Year in 1986 and 1999. In 1977, he founded The Second Mile, a non-profit charity in Pennsylvania serving underprivileged and at-risk youths prosecutors later claimed he used as a breeding ground for many of the boys he came to abuse.

The hearing is being overseen by examiner Michael Bangs.
