Reports indicate that the following was taped on Tuesday night for the episode of WWE SmackDown that is set to air this Friday Jan. 10 from Philadelphia, Pa. The WWE is continuing to build towards the Royal Rumble pay-per-view on Sunday, Jan. 26 live from the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh.
In the main event of the evening, The Shield defeated CM Punk and the New Age Outlaws in a six-man tag team match that saw Roman Reigns hit Billy Gunn with the spear to win the match for The Shield.
The Shield cut a promo before the match where Reigns called himself the best in the world for beating Punk on RAW, Dean Ambrose said he had nightmares thanks to Jake "The Snake" Roberts and Seth Rollins talked about the future.
In a champion vs. champion match, WWE World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton defeated WWE Intercontinental Champion Big E Langston via an RKO. Orton appeared backstage with Vickie Guerrero earlier on in the show and said he was upset and would be addressing Triple H and Stephanie McMahon on Monday's RAW.
The WWE furthered the storyline with Daniel Bryan and The Wyatt family by having Bray Wyatt and Bryan cut a backstage promo on their match against The Usos on RAW this coming Monday.
The Wyatt Family also got involved in the opening match when The Usos and Luke Harper and Erick Rowan fought to a double countout and Bryan, Wyatt, Harper and Rowan attacked The Usos, ending the segment with Wyatt hitting Sister Abigail on Jey Uso.
A match was made for the Royal Rumble pay-per-view when The Big Show appeared on the MizTV segment and was interrupted by Brock Lesnar's manager Paul Heyman. Heyman called Lesnar the ultimate fighter of the WWE and Show challenged Lesnar to a match at the Royal Rumble, which was accepted by Heyman on behalf of his client.
In other action, Rey Mysterio, Sin Cara and Los Matadores defeated Jack Swagger, Antonio Cesaro, Curtis Axel and Ryback in an eight-man tag team match after Mysterio hit Swagger with the 619 and splash while Xavier Woods defeated Fandango with a quick roll-up. After the match, Cameron and Naomi attacked Summer Rae.
This episode of SmackDown continued the build towards the Royal Rumble by focusing on Orton's frustration, the storyline with Bryan and The Wyatts and making a match between Lesnar and The Big Show.
