Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson is standing by his decision not to allow former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez to watch his former mates in their AFC Championship game against Denver this Sunday.
"He's not allowed to watch any TV," Hodgson told The Associated Press on Friday of Hernandez, who is being held in solitary confinement. "As far as finding it out, if they hear an officer talking about it they might find out that way. He could probably hear about it if some other inmate were to call home and he were to yell out."
"Other inmates in the prison get two hours of television per night, and they usually choose to watch sports, Hodgson told AP. He later added should the Patriots beat the Broncos and reach the Super Bowl, the general population inmates would be able to watch the first 90 minutes or so of the game, which is scheduled to kick off at around 6:30 p.m. EST.
A year after forming a tight end tandem with Rob Gronkowski that accounted for 106 catches and 16 touchdowns for the Patriots, Hernandez remains held without bail on first-degree murder charges in the shooting death of former associate Odin Lloyd, a 27-year-old semi-pro football player.
Police have also hinted Hernandez is a suspect in a 2012 double homicide in Boston that remains unsolved.
