Super Bowl XLVIII Tickets Prices Down: Cold Weather Causing Drop in Ticket Prices? [VIDEO]

Is this year's Super Bowl going to be the least attended championship game in history?

Almost a week before the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks clash for all the marbles in Super Bowl XLVIII at the MetLife Stadium in New York, ticket prices to the year's biggest sporting event are reportedly dropping due to the cold weather in the region.

ESPN.com is reporting that the cheapest ticket to this year's Super Bowl was pegged at $1,779 on the NFL Ticket Exchange, which is more than $400 lower compared to the ticket prices of last year's event with as many days left. The price is also $809 cheaper compared to the ticket prices of Super Bowl XLVI with as many days left before the main event.

ESPN.com quoted a ticket brokerage owner in Seattle, James Kimmel, as saying: "What we have now is like a panicked stock market. The buyers have frozen, and the sellers are panicking."

Kimmel went as far as saying that the cold weather is affecting the ticket prices to the championship game. He explained: "For the prices people are paying, they want to be comfortable in their seats. Even if it's not a blizzard, sitting outside in very cold weather is a deterrent."

The NFL, however, seemed to be unaffected by the drop in ticket prices. According to its spokesman Brian McCarthy, there is widespread interest from fans and sponsors to this year's Super Bowl, and everyone is asking for tickets to the game. He added that they don't expect to see empty seats come game time.
