Tonight the WWE airs its 27th annual Royal Rumble pay-per-view live from the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh and officially kicks off the road to WrestleMania XXX. As per usual with the Royal Rumble match itself, there is likely to be many twists and turns throughout the night as well as some surprise entrants. Here is the latest backstage news on the event.
It has been widely speculated that Chris Jericho may return in the Royal Rumble match like he did in 2013, and Jericho was in Pittsburgh Saturday for a World of Wheels appearance, according to Wrestlingheadlines.com. Jericho even tweeted Saturday, hinting that he will be in Pittsburgh and that his fans should "get ready to rumble."
"Headed to Pittsburgh to rock the World Of Wheels at Lawrence Convention Center TODAY from 12-3pm! Let's get ready to rumble Jerichoholics!"
According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, two other rumored surprise entrants for the Rumble match include Jimmy Wang Yang and 2 Cold Scorpio, who used to be in the original ECW and then later the WWE as Flash Funk. The WWE will try and use a Scorpio appearance as a tie-in to the WWE Network, which launches Feb. 24 and will have ECW pay-per-views and ECW Hardcore TV episodes on it.
CBS Washington had an interview with Curtis Axel--whose name wasn't put on the list of expected Rumble participants--and he said he fully expects to be in the match. With 10 slots open, that remains a possibility.
CM Punk will be No.1 in the Rumble match and recently spoke about the awful draw that Kane gave him :
Wrestlingheadlines.com reports that Daniel Bryan discussed the fact that he won't be in the Rumble match in a recent interview, as he is taking on Bray Wyatt in singles competition.
"As of now, I'm not in the 30-man Royal Rumble match, I'm trying to get involved in it. Triple H doesn't want me anywhere in the Royal Rumble match," he told ST Communities.
It is expected that Batista will win the Royal Rumble and go on to face Randy Orton at WrestleMania XXX in New Orleans on April 6 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Ric Flair tweeted well wishes to Batista as he prepares for his first match in the WWE since 2010.
