Jared Lorenzen Still Playing Quarterback? [VIDEO]: Former Giants And Kentucky Star Makes Continental Debut

Jared Lorenzen is still at it on the gridiron as the 320-pound former back-up quarterback for the New York Giants and ex-Kentucky star is still playing signal caller after making his season debut in the Continental Indoor Football League Monday night.

According to the New York Post, Lorenzen--who used to go by such flattering nicknames as "The Pillsbury Throwboy," and "The Hefty Lefty" to name a few, made his first appearance for the Northern Kentucky River Monsters on Monday and showed some agility in the pocket.

The Post reports that Lorenzen went 23-for-37 in his debut game for 183 yards with three touchdowns and a rushing score while leading the team to a 36-20 triumph over the Bluegrass Warhorses in his debut on Monday.

Lorenzen holds numerous passing records at Kentucky and spent time as the backup to Eli Manning for the Giants in the 2006 and 2007 seasons, earning a Super Bowl win with Big Blue. Lorenzen was last with the Indianapolis Colts, who cut him in 2008, and ever since then he has bounced around from independent football leagues and even served as the River Monsters general manager, according to the New York Post.

Since leaving the River Monsters, there has been a high demand for Lorenzen to return.

"I field several times a day the question is Jared coming back? Today is a day that I can definitely say yes, and a day River Monster Fans can be excited for," head coach Brian Schmidt told the team's website. "Having a QB the caliber of Jared improves not only the River Monsters, but league as a whole."

Lorenzen only threw eight passes in the NFL, completing four of them for 28 yards with the Giants. In four years in Kentucky stretching from 2000-03, Lorenzen went 862-for-1,514 (56.9%) for 10,354 yards with 78 touchdowns and 41 interceptions.

After a brief stint in the NFL, Lorenzen has once again found a place with the River Monsters.
