The NBA Slam Dunk Contest might finally be about to get its legs back.
Long viewed as an All-Star Game Weekend bust largely based on the fact the league could no longer attract its biggest and most athletic talents to compete in it, ESPN's Marc Stein is reporting Indiana's Paul George. Washington's John Wall and Portland's Damian Lillard are all on the verge of agreeing to compete alongside defending champ Terrence Ross in this month's contest down in New Orleans.
"Hearing tonight that Paul George, John Wall and Terrence Ross could all wind up joining Damian Lillard in dunk contest at All-Star Weekend," Stein tweeted early Thursday.
With the likes of LeBron James and Dwight Howard again making it known that they had no interest in competing, several media outlets have reported that league officials early on this season made it a point of trying to add some additional star power to the lineup of competitors. Reportedly, Clippers big man DeAndre Jordan was also offered a spot in the lineup.
All-Star Weekend activities commence on Feb. 14. While the dunk contest as rumored figures to be a big improvement from say the days of Chris "Birdman" Anderson and Tim Perry butchering attempt after attempt, it still doesn;t quite rise to the level of say Michael Jordan vs. Dominique Wilkins in 1988.
