Derrick Rose injury update: Chicago Bulls star guard 'much smarter about rehab this time around' [VIDEO]

Derrick Rose is taking "a smarter approach" to his recovery from knee surgery this season that ultimately could leave the All-Star and his Chicago Bulls in a much stronger position.

According to ESPN, in addition to the two-a-day workouts and daily shooting drills he's already engaged in Rose has never watched and studied more hoops than he does these days as he seeks to put his career back on course following back-to-back, season-ending knee injuries.

While there has been no talk of Rose being "cleared by doctors" the network adds Rose demeanor is clearly more upbeat than it was at this time last season. Indeed, the torn medial meniscus in the right knee he suffered this time around isn't nearly as painful or as difficult to come back from as a torn ACL he suffered last season, but it seems there's more to it than just that.

According to ESPN, there seems so much less trepidation on the part of the youngest MVP in league history this time around. He returned to the bench and the act of traveling with his teammates much sooner this year than last, and strikes those regularly around him as being much more engaged.

The website adds Coach Tom Thibodeau has decided to engage his all-star guard even more by playfully grilling him on all the varying nuances of the game. Rose reportedly has even joked that Thibodeau is trying to turn him into a coach. Yet, he also admits he now sees the game in much greater detail and hopes that will make him a better player when he can get on the court.
