Trayvon Martin killer George Zimmerman now claims he's a scapegoat for President Obama and was "screwed over by the U.S. government" based on his prosecution in the shooting death of the unarmed Florida teen.
Appearing on an episode of CNN's New Day, Zimmerman was as boastful as he was unapologetic in asserting he feels he has been unfairly vilified and now wants to become a lawyer to prevent the kind of miscarriages of justice he was forced to endure.
A self-appointed neighborhood watch commander, Zimmerman shot and killed the 17-year-old Martin just steps from the front door of his father's gated community home after he ignored a police dispatcher's admonishments not to follow the teen and instead elected to confront him. He later admitted he thought the unsuspecting teen looked suspicious because he was simply wearing a hoodie.
During the CNN interview, Zimmerman complained that although he was controversially acquitted of murder charges he still feels victimized based on the fact there were those who were vocally in favor of prosecuting him. Zimmerman added he receives waves of death threats and fears he will never be a free man. These complaints come despite Zimmerman's insistence on remaining in the spotlight, highlighted by his seeking a celebrity boxing match.
Promoter Alki David later told TMZ he only decided to call off the bout after the parents of Trayvon Martin refused to take any proceeds from the match as a donation to the foundation bearing their son's name.
Since being acquitted in the youth's killing, Zimmerman has also been arrested for attacking his girlfriend and ticketed at least twice for speeding infractions.
