Things got intense on a baseball diamond in Cuba during a game between Matanzas and Villa Clara Monday night, leading to a wild altercation that saw a Matanzas player violently swing a bat at a Villa Clara pitcher after he head-hunted two players with fastballs.

According to Deadspin.com, Matanzas took a 3-0 lead after a solo homer in the seventh inning, and things took a turn for the worse. Following the homer, Villa Clara pitcher Freddy Alvarez hit a Matanzas player in the head with a fastball and then aimed for a second batter's head just two hitters later.

The hitter was able to duck out of the way of the fastball and head towards the Matanzas dugout, which was in the process of emptying out with enraged players. One such enraged player was Demis Valdes, who wasn't event in the game but charged at Alvarez with his glove and bat. That's when things began to get violent.

Alvarez and Valdes threw their gloves at one another, and then Valdes planted his feet and swung for the fences while aiming at Alvarez's head. Valdes' swing narrowly missed the pitcher's head and he was eventually held back by Villa Clara players while one of his teammates took the bat out of his hands.

The dugouts and bullpens then fully emptied and the players all remained on the field for five minutes. The game was delayed for 20 minutes before the umpires were able to resume it, according to Deadspin.

Matanzas hung on to win the game 3-0, and luckily for both sides no one was seriously injured in the altercation.
