Darrelle Revis was traded from the New York Jets to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last April, and it appears as though the highly regarded cornerback could be on the move again. According to the latest rounds of rumors and speculation, the Bucs have been linked to the possibility of moving Revis.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, the Buccaneers aren't actively shopping Revis, however several teams at the combine questioned Tampa Bay as to whether or not they'd deal Revis in order to save $16 million in cap space and garner more draft picks.
CBS Sports then reported that rival executive believe that a deal may be struck.
Lovie Smith took over for the team as the head coach in January after Greg Schiano was fired, and he has insisted that Revis will still be a factor in the team's Cover 2 defensive scheme. Revis, 29, is under contract with the team until 2018 and signed a deal worth $16 million--none of which is guaranteed.
According to the New York Post, it may not be easy for the team to deal Revis since many teams project him to be worth around $8 or $9 million in the open market and he'd have to restructure his deal if most teams were to take him on. Given Revis' knack for holding out for more money, it's doubtful he'd be open to renegotiating his deal for less.
The Bucs traded their 2013 first-round pick and a conditional 2014 fourth-round pick to the Jets for Revis last April, but if he's still on Tampa Bay's roster on March 13, the 2014 pick becomes a third-rounder.
Revis made his fifth Pro Bowl last season with Tampa Bay, notching 50 tackles and two interceptions after recovering from a torn ACL injury stemming back to 2012.
