Danny Granger re-entered the NBA playoff picture Thursday night.
One day after buying out his contract with the Philadelphia 76ers and being placed on waivers, Granger apparently has decided to sign with the Los Angeles Clipper on Friday when he is expected to clear waivers, ESPN.com is reporting.
The report said that Granger has a home in Los Angeles and has trained in the Clippers' practice facility in the summer.
The 76ers acquired the 30-year-old Granger from the Indiana Pacers in exchange for Evan Turner and Lavoy Allen last week. Granger, however, quickly decided that he didn't want to finish the season in Philadelphia.
Granger is in his ninth year in the league and has a career 17.6 points-per-game average. But his durability has been a big issue the last three years. He played in 62 games in 2011-12. Last season, Granger played in only five games because of a knee injury.
In 2014, Granger has played in 29 games, starting in just two of them. He is averaging 8.3 points per game, down from his high of 25.8 points during the 2008-09 season.
ESPN reported that the Clippers stepped up their efforts to land Granger because of the back injury to J.J. Redick. Granger is the second player in as many weeks to sign with the Clippers after having their contract bought out for them.
Glen "Big Baby" Davis signed with the Clippers last week, reuniting with his former coach when he was in Boston, Doc Rivers. Los Angeles also signed Hedo Turkoglu to add depth to its bench.
ESPN added that the Clippers traded Byron Mullens and Antawn Jamison last week to create roster spots to pursue players such as Granger and Davis, who were likely to be bought out.
Granger is in the final year of a contract that pays him $14 million in 2013-14. He'll be a free agent in the summer.
