Carmelo Anthony Free Agent News: Dallas Mavs Eyeing Knicks Forward To Team With Dirk Nowitzki?

The Dallas Mavs are planning on going all in in their chase to land free-agent-to-be Carmelo Anthony this summer, and Mark Cuban's deep-pocketed squad will be more than able to amass the money to prove it.

ProBasketballTalk.com is reporting after failed pursuits in years past of such big-name stars as LeBron James, Dwight Howard, Chris Paul and Deron Williams, the Mavs have now set ther sights on the Knicks high-scoring forward.

Carmelo won't wait on Knicks

"When it comes to Melo, what you hear is the Mavs are quietly optimistic they will be on the short list of the teams granted a face-to-face visit," the website adds. "The sense in Big D is that Melo will give them a legit look."

Besides the Knicks and Phil Jackson, who are on record in asserting they would like to have the league's No. 2 scorer behind league MVP Kevin Durant back, the Bulls and Rockets are the teams most prominently mentioned as potential destinations for Anthony.

But unlike the Mavs, neither of those teams will have the cap space to afford him without making other roster moves.Still, reports are that has stopped Bulls All-Star center Joakim Noah from already recruiting Anthiny in hopes of being able to add him to a roster that also already includes fellow All-Star guard Derrick Rose and emerging forward Taj Gibson.

Dr. J doesn't think Melo a franchise player?

According to ProBasketBall, based on the most recent salary-cap forecasts, the Mavs will be able to offer Anthony a max deal and still have nearly $8.5 in cap space remaining to extend the likes of longtime franchise star Dirk Nowitzki.
