The ongoing budget cuts by the WWE and CEO Vince McMahon have continued and claimed an announcer as Josh Mathews was released from the company within the last couple of days.

Mathews joins 10 WWE Superstars, a referee and former head Monday Night RAW writer Jay Gibson as the latest casualties of the company's increasing cuts. It has been reported that McMahon is looking to slash company costs and more budget cuts could be coming.
Wrestlingheadlines.com reports that it's unknown when exactly Mathews was released, but it was sometime between Tuesday and Wednesday and his profile had already been moved from the WWE roster page to the alumni page on WWE.com

Mathews had been with the company since the original Tough Enough show in 2001 and transitioned into a backstage announcer from 2002-05 before becoming a commentator in 2006 and remaining in that role up until his release this week.
Earlier this month, the WWE released JTG, Drew McIntyre, Jinder Mahal, Aksana, Curt Hawkins, Theodore Long, Camacho, Brodus Clay, Evan Bourne, Yoshi Tatsu and referee Mark Harris before firing Gibson and now Mathews.
There is a lot of paranoia backstage that more firings could be coming and there are reports that McMahon is looking to scale back on costs by cutting back on pyro and the WWE roster and crew. The NXT roster is also expected to take a hit pretty soon.
McMahon lost a lot of money this quarter due to lackluster WWE Network subscriptions, an underwhelming television deal with NBC Universal and the WWE stock taking a bit of a plunge. It has led to a fear that a lot of lower-tier Superstars' jobs aren't safe.
Mahal, who was a member of 3MB is in the Independent circuit using the name Raj Singh, recently spoke with Slam Wrestling about being released.
"I was surprised, because we were pretty well booked on everything," Mahal said about 3MB and his release. "We were on a lot of the live events, a lot of the overseas tours. We were always on RAW and SmackDown, and if we weren't, we would do Superstars or Main Event in the week. So yeah, I was surprised."
With roster cuts coming very frequently now, it is a tumultuous time in the WWE.
