When: Wednesday, August 13
Where: Cincinnati, Ohio
Live Stream: ESPN
The Western & Southern Open started off with a bang as No. 1 Novak Djokovic survived his opening match against Gilles Simon (6-3, 4-6, 6-4). Djokovic is attempting to get the upper hand early on in Cincinnati seeing how it’s the only Masters series event he has never won.
The story of the first day was Djokovic as he won despite his 36 unforced errors as he attempts to become the first player to win at all nine ATP Masters events. Djokovic voiced his frustrations about the match in a tournament he has been the runner-up four times.
"Let's be honest: I don't enjoy playing bad," Djokovic said. "I don't enjoy missing a lot of balls from the baseline. That was frustrating for me.
"I'm not playing at a level that I need to be, and it's obvious. I keep pushing myself.”
Also in contention today is (2) Roger Federer as he takes on Vasek Pospisil of Canada and American (11) John Isner will face off with Marinko Matosevic of Australia.
In the tournaments first round, (12) Jo-Wilfried Tsonga lost in straight sets to Mikhail Youzhny 6-1, 6-4.
Top seed Novak Djokovic battled past Gilles Simon 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to reach the last 16 of the Western & Southern Open.
