Sting WWE Rumors: 5 Best 'Vigilante' WCW Matches As He Prepares For Triple H at WrestleMania 31 [VIDEOS]

Sting will step in the WWE ring as a competitor for the first time ever at WrestleMania 31, but it won't be "The Vigilante's" first high-profile match as he had a legendary career in NWA/WCW and then in TNA.

Before WCW went under in 2001, Sting was the face of the franchise and engaged in many great encounters in the squared circle that are still highly regarded to this day.

Sting is set to make his WWE debut when he battles Triple H at WrestleMania 31 on March 29 live from Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.

Before Sting steps into the next chapter of his career, we'll look back at his five best bouts in WCW history.

Honorable Mentions: Wrestle War '91 and '92: Sting was on the losing side in a War Games match at Wrestle War 1991 as he, Brian Pillman and The Steiner Brothers fell to The Four Horseman in a great encounter. The next year saw another great battle as "The Vigilante," Barry Windham, Dustin Rhodes, Ricky Steamboat and Nikita Koloff defeated The Dangerous Alliance (Steve Austin, Rick Rude, Arn Anderson, Bobby Eaton and Larry Zbyszko in another great installment of the War Games match. These would make the list, but they involve a lot of guys so were relegated as honorable mentions.

5) Sting and Ric Flair vs. The Great Muta and Dick Slater: While they are more known for their rivalry, Sting and Flair actually teamed up at Clash of the Champions VIII: Fall Brawl '89 on Sept. 12, 1989, in a crazy brawl with The Great Muta and Slater. Flair and Sting won the barbaric battle after Muta used his mist on Sting and Slater struck Flair with his cast to draw a DQ. Both wrestling legends were battered after the match as Terry Funk tried to suffocate Flair and Slater hit Sting in the leg with a branding iron.

4) Sting and Lex Luger vs. The Steiner Brothers: Another great tag team match involving Sting saw him team up with Lex Luger to battle the Steiner Brothers in an epic encounter at the inaugural SuperBrawl event on May 19, 1991. The match lasted over 11 minutes and though Sting and Luger fell short, it was a great clash between four combatants that were ready to go at it.

3) Sting vs. Vader: At Starrcade on Dec. 22, 1992, Sting had an epic encounter with the mighty Vader. The two waged war in the King of Cable tournament finals in a match that lasted over 16 minutes. Sting was able to win the bout after hitting an impressive powerslam out of midair on his much larger opponent.

2) Sting vs. Cactus Jack: "The Icon" took on Cactus Jack, "The Hardcore Legend," at WCW Beach Blast on June 20, 1992 in a Falls Count Anywhere bout. The match was fantastic as the two took it to each other and in the end, Sting stood tall by thwarting off Jack in just over 11 minutes.

The two would renew acquaintences again in 2009:

1) Sting vs. Ric Flair: Sting and Flair had a lot of great battles over the years, but perhaps their best was at the inaugural Clash of the Champions on March 27, 1988, which went up against the WWE's WrestleMania IV. While this is technically an NWA match, it's good enough to top this list. Sting and Flair put on a wrestling clinic for 45 minutes and wrestled to a draw. Though Sting fell short in his pursuit of the NWA Heavyweight Championship, it was still a heck of a battle.

Sting's WCW success may be behind him, but it's the reason why he's a wrestling legend going up against Triple H at WrestleMania 31 later this month.
